Moving Day
Moving is never easy: finding another place, packing, uncertainty about the new location. And, for low-income families, a new place can be almost impossible to find.
The Toronto Christian Resource Centre (CRC) has been working with people in Regent Park, Toronto, to address such problems. The CRC was founded in 1964 to work with homeless people and low-income families in downtown Toronto, and it receives support from the Mission and Service Fund.
Regent Park is a city-planned community made up of new Canadians, many from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and African countries. It had become rundown and recently the city of Toronto began redeveloping the area, replacing housing tracts with mixed-income and social housing, condos, banks, and stores. The hope is to revitalize the neighbourhood, making it safe, attractive, and diverse.
The CRC helps people in the area make adjustments. A community chaplain offers support to the residents. Temporary homes were found for all those displaced. The centre provides assistance with government programs such as Ontario Works or the Ontario Disability Support Program; getting identity cards; and accessing health services.
Your gifts to the Mission and Service Fund help the Toronto Christian Resource Centre support residents of Regent Park as they adjust to the changing realities of a big city. Together through M&S, we are ministering to people in transition in large and small centres right across Canada.
We are a united church! This week, remember in your prayers
the diverse United Church ethnic congregations and all those who
work with newcomers to Canada.

Dear Delegate,
Please pass on the following message to members of your Pastoral Charge.
I want to take the opportunity to update charges in Newfoundland and Labrador as to how we have been doing with the Haiti Relief Fund ... and to say a great big thank you to all individuals and churches who have contributed.
As of March 8th, the United Church of Canada has collected $2.5 million dollars for relief efforts in Haiti. Many of these dollars have been matched by Government grants, and so have increased our ministry in this earthquake torn area.
Omega Bula, the Executive minister in the Justice, Global and Ecumenical Relations Unit of our Church writes:
Members of the United Church, in a remarkable embodiment of compassion and generosity, have contributed more than $2.5 million to the church's Haiti Earthquake Appeal. The response is just tremendous. It is a powerful example of God's love expressed through the faithful giving of United Church members from all parts of Canada.
Thank you so much for giving to this special appeal, and for your ongoing support and contributions to the Mission and Service Fund!!! You are making a difference in the world!!
Blessings
Roger
