Please forward items for Church News to Darryl Butt by Thursday of each week McKee’s Mills United Church It was a cold January morning, minus 31 degrees, as the members of McKee’s Mills United Church in New Brunswick gathered for worship. Inside, people greeted one another and celebrated the return of those who had been away for Christmas. A beautiful handmade Mission and Service banner hung proudly in the midst of seven shining stained glass windows. At their annual meeting a year earlier, they had reduced their Mission and Service Fund goal by $200 to $1,500, based on declining attendance. This was a big decision because over the past five years they had raised their M&S objective each year and surpassed it every time. But on that cold morning they had something to celebrate: they had once again surpassed their goal! They had raised $1,993 to support the wonderful work of the Mission and Service Fund. The speaker held up the book Minutes for Mission and said, “This is your receipt. The money that goes to the Mission and Service Fund supports all the work described in the stories between the covers of this small book.” The Minute for Mission they chose to read that morning was apt; it was called “Small Yet Mighty.” They couldn’t help but think that those words described both Minutes for Mission and McKee’s Mills United Church. The spirit of generosity is alive and well at McKee’s Mills United Church. Please join them in making a mighty gift to the M&S Fund. We are a united church! This week, remember the small congregations across the church, who give generously and faithfully to the work we support together as a denomination. © 2008 The United Church of Canada/L’Église Unie du Canada.
