The McDowell United Church Trustee Board is in the process of replacing the windows in the Church. A Window Fund has been set up and as a result the two windows for the front of the Church should be installed by early spring. The other windows in the Church will cost approximately $1000.00 each to purchase and install. We are continuing to raise money and look for support to get these in place. If anyone is interested in donating a window in Memorial or in Honour please contact any member of the Trustee Board.

M&S and ARI
If you visited Nasu-Shiobara, a rural area just south of Sendai in Japan, you would find a ministry rooted in the love of Jesus Christ. Here is a school and residence run by the Asian Rural Institute (ARI). Their goal is to build an environmentally healthy, just, and peaceful world. The ARI wants to assist people particularly from the most economically marginalized areas of the world and looks for students to whom they give scholarship assistance. These students are trained in the best ways to enhance local rural resources, to help marginalized people create their own development projects, and to find ecologically sustainable ways of working and living.
When they go home, these new community leaders provide training in soil fertility and crop diversification. They also teach small business development and organize women’s workshops on income, nutrition, health, and vocational education. They have programs for the disabled, for young adults, and for abandoned children that teach income-generating skills. These new leaders also host interfaith dialogues with other denominations and faith groups in their area.
The work done in Nasu-Shiobara is made possible through the Mission and Service Fund of our church, one example of the work our church does outside of Canada. United Church pastor, George Takashima, visited the ARI recently. He urges us, and especially ethnic congregations, to be more supportive of such work. “I am even more convinced that the best way to do the work of the church in the field of evangelism—building churches, education, service—is to support our Mission and Service Fund.” Please give generously.
