Raising Children

If it takes a village to raise a child, the church can certainly be a big part of that village.

St. John’s United Church in Stratford, Ontario, has found a unique way to help raise children and to contribute to the community. St John’s has been running a very special, not-for-profit preschool program in their church for over 35 years. St. John’s Cooperative Preschool delivers a valuable service to children with special needs. This involves children with autism, hearing impairments, behavioural disorders, poverty, physical disabilities, or other learning impairments. St. John’s Pre-school lovingly teaches these children.

This school takes great pride in not only providing fun for these children, but also in providing a unique learning experience. It educates and involves parents and guardians to learn more about their child’s needs and how to communicate and advocate for their child in the grade-school setting that they will soon enter.

Staffed by qualified and dedicated teachers and a large contingent of volunteers from the members of St. John’s, this program can be an inspiration to us all. It is funded largely by generous donations from St. John’s own members as well as community grants, charitable donations, and parent fees. Last year, St. John’s Preschool was the grateful recipient of M&S funding.

Through your gifts to M&S, you too can help nurture a child, as well as a community.
